The spirit of the Armstrong Family Foundation Scholarship Program is to replace, to the extent we are able, the financial and personal support that is missing from some students' lives due to family circumstances beyond their control. It is available to Arizona residents that are orphans, wards of the court, in foster care, or qualified independent students.
An important component of the program is recipient involvement in other Foundation activities, including Service Learning, semester trips to work with Rancho Feliz initiatives in Mexico as well as regular group meetings. Recently Peer Counseling has been added as a further component of the program.
The program has grown from four students in 1999 to an expected total of twenty five students for the 2009-2010 academic year. The scholarship amount varies depending on individual student need. In addition to the program's specific eligibility rules, students are selected based on academic achievement and ambitious personal traits. Each student is interviewed by a panel consisting of ASU Foundation personnel and members of the Armstrong family.
